Love This Buyer is Working to Protect Digital Privacy in Real Estate Contracts

Digital Footprints Leave a Lasting Mark

A digital footprint is created by years of social media usage and internet reliance, and can include information about someone’s job, family and personal life. A buyer’s name on a contract leads their digital footprint to be factored, often unintentionally, into decisions about which contract offer a seller accepts and how to negotiate with a particular buyer. This diminishes a buyer’s privacy, harms their negotiation prowess, and unfairly affects their chance of winning an offer on a home.

Here’s What Licensed Real Estate Agents Say About the Need for Buyer Privacy

“Several of my buyers have been nervous that a seller may discriminate or choose a buyer based on last name.”

“I work with a number of LGBTQ clients, and I don't think we often know how much their identity affects them getting an offer accepted.”

“Sellers look up buyers to determine if the buyer would be a good fit for a home in the neighborhood.”

“I had a seller's agent tell me the sellers chose another offer because they wanted the house to go to a family and not my client who was a single male.”

“My buyer was from a famous family and wanted their information to remain private because of their last name.”

“[My clients] later learned the house sold for less than their offer. There's always suspicion of bias.”

“Some of my sellers have admitted to searching for the buyers because they want to make certain they're passing their house on to someone who will love it as much as they do.”

“I work with a wide range of clients, from all backgrounds. I have had same-sex buyers discriminated against as well as inter-racial couples. It is so disappointing when this happens. I also feel that childless couples have missed on "family homes" as well."

“A buyer’s name was obviously Muslim. I really feel that his offers were not looked at favorably.”

Don't Let Your Digital Footprint Stop You from Getting Your Foot in the Door

Love This Buyer’s mission is to educate the market on unwanted intrusions into buyers’ personal information and the harmful effect this can have on their real estate contract offers. We are advocates for legislation that advances digital privacy, so buyers can feel confident in the privacy of their personal details, while sellers can avoid distractions and focus on evaluating the offers strictly on the terms of the contract. Core to our mission is inspiring thought leaders to create digital solutions that provide seamless, private transactions and successful closings for individual home buyers and sellers.
